Bonotsu is located at the southwestern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula. Facing the beautiful sea, the area has a warm climate, and its rich soil is nurtured by mountain spring water and sea breezes. Using Bonotsu clay and Amakusa pottery stone from Kumamoto as a base, the pottery is produced in a uniform and simple style, bringing out the unique characteristics of each. These are easy-to-use vessels for everyday use that retain the expression and warmth of the clay, which is characteristic of pottery, while also combining the strength of porcelain. This series was born from the desire to directly convey the individuality of the local clay and the culture of the land. The longitude and latitude of the excavation site and the proportion of the clay blend are engraved on the back of the vessel.

*Oxidation firing (OF) is a firing method in which there is enough oxygen for the fuel to burn completely, while reduction firing (RF) is a firing method in which the combustion proceeds in a state of suffocation, so to speak, when there is not enough oxygen. The color of the glaze and the clay also differs depending on whether the firing method is oxidation firing or reduction firing. In the case of transparent glaze, the iron turns red in oxidation firing, and the opposite color, green, in reduction firing. Also, in the case of white glaze, the iron is more likely to blow out in reduction firing than in oxidation firing, resulting in a different look. There are also differences in the shape, and compared to oxidation firing, reduction firing results in an open rim and a flat finish. Another interesting thing about pottery is the chemical changes that occur when the firing method is changed. Enjoy the different characteristics that appear when the firing method is changed even with the same shape and clay.
