Bonotsu is located at the southwestern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula. Facing the beautiful sea, the land has a warm climate, and rich soil is nurtured by mountain spring water and sea breezes. Based on Bonotsu clay and Amakusa pottery stone from Kumamoto, each pottery is made in a uniform and simple manner to bring out the characteristics of each. It is an easy-to-use vessel that retains the earthy expression and warmth that are characteristic of pottery, while also having the strength that is characteristic of porcelain. This series was born from the desire to directly convey the characteristics of the local soil and the culture of the land. The back of the vessel is engraved with the longitude and latitude of the place where it was dug and the ratio of the blended soil.

* Oxidation firing (OF) is a firing method in which there is enough oxygen to burn the fuel completely, while reduction firing (RF) is a firing method in which oxygen is insufficient. In other words, it is a grilling method in which combustion progresses in a suffocating state. Depending on whether the firing method is oxidation firing or reduction firing, the color of the glaze and soil will also be different. In the case of transparent glaze, the iron content develops a red color in oxidation firing, and the opposite color, green, in reduction firing. In addition, in the case of white glaze, the iron content blows out more in reduction firing than in oxidation firing, giving a different flavor. There is also a difference in the shape, and compared to oxidation firing, reduction firing opens the mouth and creates a flat finish. The chemical change that appears by changing the firing method is also an interesting part of pottery. Please enjoy the different characteristics that appear by changing the firing method even with the same mold and the same clay.
