In the United States during the Prohibition era in the 1920s, the slang for glasses was "cheater" (derived from the act of sneaking a peek). This has been changed to " guépard ".
The logo design depicts a cheetah peering intently with one eye.
The owners of both stores, Yamamura and Yanagihara, have been dealing in French vintage clothing since its early days and have helped create its current popularity, so the name is also a bit ironic as they say that modern designers who create "vintage-style" designs "only cheat (sneak a peek at) the surface of vintage (original) clothing."
Design Concept
Standard jazz was essential to getting people excited during the Prohibition era.
Just as the music itself was later passed down as material for improvisational performances, this collection offers a new interpretation of French vintage music, inheriting the high design quality of French vintage music while arranging it to suit a delicate and modern atmosphere.
