A stool made from chestnut wood from Iwate Prefecture. It is dyed black by a method called iron mordant.

Iron mordant is in the material It is a method of dyeing by impregnating iron mordant liquid and reacting with a component called tannin. It is a method of dyeing fibers such as cloth, but it can also be applied to wood.

MOBLEY WORKS stools are usually made of oak, but this product is made of chestnut, which is rich in tannins.
First, the undercoat is first dyed with a fine powder called "pine soot ink". Next, when a mordant solution (a reaction of iron and vinegar) is applied, the tannins contained in the chestnut react and turn the wood black.
