The idea of ​​Retina® 210 Denier Ripstop was to create a lightweight and durable fabric that can be used for high performance packs. The demands on this fabric are high because it is used in the Alpine and Lightweight Trekking series. To meet these demands, the fabric is given a skyr coating (surface coating) on ​​the front and a water repellent surface. By applying the coating, the water repellent function stays on the fabric for a long time. In addition, the back is given a TPU coating to increase abrasion resistance while reducing weight. This ensures a waterproof rating of 10,000mm, making it the perfect material for waterproof packs. The material is made of 210 denier Econyl® fabric. Econyl® is a recycled yarn made from 50% post-consumer recycled and 50% pre-consumer recycled polyamide.

Polyamide (nylon) is a synthetic fiber made from petroleum that creates extremely strong and versatile fabrics. At Klattermusen we use recycled polyamide from post-industrial and post-consumer sources. Post-consumer waste is our first choice as we want to encourage recycling of used products. Post-consumer waste used for recycled polyamide includes discarded industrial fishing nets, old carpets and stiff fibers. Recycling polyamide adds additional complexity to the production process, but the result is a reliable, long-lasting material that is lightweight, quick-drying and wind-resistant, saving energy and resources while utilising what would otherwise be waste. In 2009, Klattermusen was the first outdoor company to use recycled polyamide for all of its backpacks.
