The image of a Japanese material is a cotton material woven with hard, thick plain weave threads.
Far from being supple, the stiff and durable fabric is highly breathable and moisture-absorbing, and there are almost no such materials available in Europe.
It's the opposite of Japan, where it's dry and you don't want the air to escape.
Nishiwaki is a production area that has the image of producing many fabrics unique to Japan.
Nowadays, there are a variety of threads and looms, and although it's not just the image of the past, I wanted to try cooking with the European-style fabric, which is perfect for the Japanese summer. A large river flows through the factory in Nishiwaki, and the water is drawn in to make the fabric. I felt a real sense of being alive and connected to nature.
