《KAMARO'AN》
The term "tribe" has become a collective noun for people, used to describe ethnic groups.
Initially, these were small communities, gradually expanding into cities, kingdoms, empires, and eventually globalized societies.
The world is gradually becoming more homogeneous. People share the same modern systems and pursue universal values.
Fortunately, Taiwan still has a few indigenous peoples who passionately inherit their unique values, traditional cultures, and craftsmanship, and have accumulated their ethnic knowledge while carefully maintaining it.
However, like many rural areas worldwide, regions with ancient traditions and cultures are seeing their younger generations move to cities, leading to a lack of successors, and as a result, a decline in community and economic vitality and creativity, steadily shrinking.
Looking back at the ordinary things that have been familiar for generations, KAMARO'AN inspires people to seek the inherent purity and timeless essence reflected in objects.
With a strong belief that it is objects, not copywriting, interviews, or campaigns, that truly reveal the local culture and values, KAMARO'AN started in 2013 as a project by a team of two industrial designers and one indigenous culture researcher to explore the possibilities of embodying traditional crafts and their cultural values in product design.
It has been established as a brand since 2015.
Inspired by Taiwan's indigenous culture, KAMARO'AN pursues delicate craftsmanship with clean designs, working closely with local artisans and resources to create workplaces for young people with indigenous backgrounds, striving to support and maintain local traditions and working environments.
The name KAMARO'AN comes from the Pangcah language of the Amis people, one of Taiwan's indigenous groups, and reflects a lifestyle in harmony with nature, valuing handmade daily necessities and adhering to practical rather than flashy weaving methods.
KAMARO'AN celebrates the uniqueness, timeless beauty, and precision that hands can bring to life.
