"Tribe" has become established as a collective term for groups of people, often used to describe ethnic groups.
Initially, these were small communities, gradually expanding into cities, kingdoms, empires, and eventually globalization.
The world is gradually homogenizing. People share the same modern systems and pursue universal values.
Fortunately, Taiwan retains a small number of indigenous peoples who passionately preserve their unique values, traditional cultures, and craft techniques,carefully maintaining and accumulating their ethnic knowledge.
However, like many rural areas worldwide, regions with long-standing traditions and cultures are seeing their young generations move to cities, leading to a lack of successors. As a result,
the vitality and creativity of these communities and economies are diminishing, leading to a steady decline.
KAMARO'AN inspires people by looking back at the ordinary things that have been familiar for generations, seeking the original, pure form that objects reflect and their timeless essence.
With the strong belief that it is objects, rather than copywriting, interviews, or campaigns, that truly reveal local culture and values, KAMARO'AN started in 2013 as a project by a team of two industrial designers andone indigenous culture researcher, exploring the possibility of embodying traditional crafts and their cultural values in product design.
It has been established as a brand since 2015.
Inspired by Taiwan's indigenous culture, KAMARO'AN pursues delicate craftsmanship with clean designs.Working closely with local artisans and resources, KAMARO'AN strives to create employment opportunities for young people with indigenous backgrounds,supporting and maintaining local traditions and working environments.
The name KAMARO'AN is derived from the Pangcah language of the Amis people, one of Taiwan's indigenous groups, and reflects their harmonious way of life with nature.They value handmade daily necessities, adhering to weaving techniques that are practical yet not overly flashy.
KAMARO'AN celebrates the uniqueness, timeless beauty, and precision that hands can bring to life.
