"Tribe" has become established as a collective term for groups of people, often used to describe ethnic groups.
Initially, these were small communities that gradually expanded into cities, kingdoms, empires, and eventually globalization.
The world is becoming increasingly homogenized. People share the same modern systems and pursue universal values.
Fortunately, Taiwan still has a few indigenous communities that enthusiastically preserve their unique values, traditional cultures, and craft techniques,carefully maintaining and accumulating their ethnic knowledge.
However, like many rural areas worldwide, regions with long-standing traditions and cultures are shrinking asyounger generations move to cities, leaving no successors, which results in a loss of vitality and creativity in local communities and economies.
By looking back at the familiar things that have been around for generations, KAMARO'AN inspires people to seek the inherent purity and timelessessence that objects reflect.
Under the strong belief that it is objects, not copywriting, interviews, or campaigns, that truly reveal a land's culture and values,KAMARO'AN began in 2013 as a project by a team of two industrial designers andone indigenous culture researcher, exploring the possibilities of embodying traditional crafts and their cultural values in product design.
Since 2015, it has been established as a brand.
Inspired by Taiwan's indigenous culture, KAMARO'AN pursues delicate craftsmanship with clean designs,working closely with local artisans and resources to create workplaces for young people with indigenous backgrounds,and striving to support and maintain local traditions and working environments.
The name KAMARO'AN comes from the Amis people, one of Taiwan's indigenous groups, whose language Pangcah reflects a lifestyle in harmony with nature,and values handmade daily necessities, adhering to practical rather than flashy weaving techniques.
KAMARO'AN celebrates the uniqueness, timeless beauty, and precision that hands can bring to life.
